Upon finally arriving in Izmir, I was pleasantly greeted by a familiar face. Ellen, a lifelong friend, picked me up and we rode the havas (shuttle car) to her parents neighborhood. Although I was jet lagged and on the verge of passing out, there is no way I could deny the offer to try some authentic Turkish cuisine. We walked to a restaurant called 01 Adana down the road, and the smells upon entering we’re intoxicating. Instantly, we were brought an array of toppings and appetizers, including a fresh made yogurt for dipping bread. The meal included several different meats and vegetables that were all delicious. I can’t wait to try more!
